This is the second Social Media Mashup conference of the year, the first was held in Philadelphia in January. The conference is on August 22-23, 2013, at the Hyatt in San Jose, Calif. This conference brings attendees the latest trends in social media from some of the largest leaders in the industry such as Google, eBay, Brazen Careerist and more.

Good Technology (Good), a leading mobile management and security provider headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, recently had an urgent need to fill 40 positions in less than a month. Their need for experienced candidates in mobile technology is a challenge in that the field is still fairly new. They were looking to hire in the San Francisco Bay Area, which also proposes conflict due to employers like Facebook and Google aiming to recruit the same talent.
Good hired global recruitment marketing agency CKR Interactive to develop a strategic media plan to attract top talent from this talent pool. The challenges Good faced in attracting this group included the career site’s content not specifically targeting or communicating to this niche audience.
With these issues in mind, CKR proposed to develop a microsite specifically developed to attract top talent to fill the hard-to-fill mobile development positions, and a comprehensive media plan to drive extremely targeted traffic to the microsite. The site and advertising utilized unique, eye-catching, hand-drawn creative and easy-to-use navigation. Site visitors were able to learn more about Good’s mobile development opportunities, career paths and employment benefits with ease.

Laurie brings more than two decades of strategic marketing and operational management experience to the agency.
Prior to joining CKR, Laurie worked for two pre-IPO Silicon Valley software companies and at TMP Worldwide as an account director where she managed high profile accounts including Cisco Systems, Space Systems/Loral, KLA-Tencor and LAM Research. Most notably, she directed the Cisco account team that won “Best of Show” at the Creative Excellence Awards for its innovative “We Know Where Your Friends Are” Employee Referral Program. She was promoted to vice president/general manager, overseeing an office of 70 people and a $25 million budget, all while exceeding profit goals by 110%.

Kasey Sixt, vice president of social and emerging media at global recruitment marketing agency CKR Interactive, presented to a packed audience on the immense value of video in the search for top talent and provided a Knowledge Bites video that shares tips for conducting on-camera interviews for HR staffing professionals. Kasey’s 20 years of experience in recruitment marketing and video production make her an expert on the topic of on-camera interviews. Employee communications research firm Peer Group US, a division of CKR Interactive, has released major findings from the 2012 National Physical Therapist Survey, which explores the job perspectives and employment preferences of today’s physical therapist population.
The survey, executed in partnership with healthcare marketing firm Katon Direct, was conducted online May 8 through May 31, 2012. The two firms were motivated by a lack of existing research regarding physical therapists, such as their willingness to change jobs, preferred employer attributes, media habits and job search behaviors.
“There’s a wealth of available data regarding the physical therapist shortage and its related issues,” notes Peer Group US Director Kendra Van Nostran. “But there wasn’t much in terms of what matters to physical therapists regarding their work experience—information that is crucial to employers seeking to recruit and retain PTs.”
Among the survey’s major findings:
- A facility’s reputation and brand awareness are extremely important to physical therapists. When asked to rate the importance of a range of employer attributes, “reputation as a great place to work” and “reputation for medical excellence” earned the highest ratings, ahead of even pay and vacation.
- Very few physical therapists are actively pursuing new opportunities. In fact, only 4.1 percent of the survey respondents say they are currently looking for a new job. The majority of respondents either won’t consider a change right now or would have to be approached directly in order to consider a job change.
- Physical therapists are most likely to turn to their friends and colleagues if they were to conduct a job search. Other job search tools identified as important include the company career site and professional/trade magazines.
- In terms of staying updated on their profession, PTs still favor print resources, including Advance for Physical Therapy & Rehab Medicine, Today in PT, APTA Physical Therapy Journal and PT in Motion.
- While physical therapists are regular users of social media, they’re ambivalent about whether or not employers should reach out to them regarding job opportunities via social media.
- Several trends were identified when responses were cross tabulated by age and gender. For example, younger PTs are more open to exploring job opportunities with another employer and to rely on their colleagues and friends when searching for a job. PTs between the ages of 36 and 45 were more likely than their counterparts to be working on a part-time basis. Male PTs are more likely to be self-employed and to exhibit a greater willingness to relocate for a job.

The Aster Awards, one of the largest national competitions of its kind, is hosted by Marketing Healthcare Today Magazine and Creative Images, Inc. The 2012 Aster Awards received nearly 3,000 entries from across the United States as well as Canada and South America. CKR’s cross ownership effort OneAgent recently announced the addition of De Vile to ReAgent, a recruitment marketing and employee communications firm headquartered in Sydney. De Vile came to ReAgent from a role as managing director of Lawton Ware’s recruitment marketing division. He recently completed a three-month assignment in China with Oxus, a OneAgent partner agency based in Beijing. Recruitment marketing agency, CKR Interactive has won a website redesign competition hosted by the National Association of Health Care Recruiters (NAHCR), which serves more than 800 hospital and health system members by providing the tools to promote the expertise and influence of health care recruiters.
The contest challenged designers and developers to create an innovative website design that would be implemented as the association moves its current site to a content management system. More specifically, CKR Interactive’s winning design meets the following objectives:

- Help members and visitors connect with NAHCR via social media channels

As schools across California face severe budget cuts, fine arts programs are being cut one by one. In fact, many local schools are no longer able to provide formal art classes for its students. In response to the diminishing art programs, recruitment marketing agency CKR Interactive's EVP of Creative Services, Craig Freitag, decided to help out by volunteering to teach young students about the arts on a weekly basis.
Freitag was concerned about the void left by cutting art programs and not providing a multidimensional education for students. "Fine arts are vulnerable to budget cuts partly because children are not tested in music or art under the No Child Left Behind act," he said. "It's alarming how our children are losing out. It's such a powerful form of self expression that we simply can't leave it unexplored."
Although there is a strong support for arts within the local community, there is simply not enough school funding to maintain art programs, forcing officials to find a way to offer fine arts with limited resources. Freitag, along with other parents that hold art degrees, are volunteering to teach the basics of visual arts, from exploration of different mediums to the appreciation of art history and work.
Despite not having taught before, Freitag was not intimidated from volunteering to give back. "It's not about displaying the fine arts of teaching, but simply teaching the fine arts" Freitag explained. "I truly believe the future success of these students will be enhanced if they learn to unlock their creativity."
Freitag's contributions are another example of CKR Interactive's belief that giving back to the community is essential for a successful business. The agency often participates in charitable activities, from promoting employees to participate in fundraisers and at local nonprofit events, to providing recruitment advertising and marketing services to nonprofits at discounted rates. Global recruitment marketing agency CKR Interactive received the exciting news that the organization's President and CEO, Curtis Rogers, was elected as Councilperson for the city of Monte Sereno, CA. Having started CKR Interactive nearly ten years ago, and with many successful company and entrepreneurial projects under his belt, Rogers was ready to give back to the community and the openings on his home town's city council provided the perfect opportunity.
Monte Sereno was incorporated in 1957 and is located in the southwestern portion of Santa Clara County at the base of the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains, approximately 50 miles southeast of San Francisco. LinkedIn emails to professional contacts - some established more than 25 years ago - also generated donations, and additional social media efforts by Dardick connected her with people from the early days of her career at JWT Advertising (formerly known as J. Specific subjects included new ways of looking at the employer brand and how to effectively communicate an organization's unique qualities to prospective employees.
Concepts were reinforced through hands-on activities. One exercise challenged attendees to express the employer brand of well-known companies, such as Disney, Starbucks and Southwest Airlines, only through images selected from magazines.
In addition to employer branding and communications, CKR Interactive also brought the HR executives up-to-speed on the latest interactive recruiting tools.
